I have always been a fan of Envato and especially ThemeForest – the best place to find quality WordPress designs with good support. But the news today is focused on the closing of their Flash sales area: ActiveDen.
ActiveDen, the dedicated Flash marketplace and community is closing its doors on February 2016. It’s mostly due to the very fluid and fast-paced industry we all operate on. And with the technologies changing faster than ever, Envato has made the correct choice to evolve and embrace these shifts. That is why they have announced that in a step by step procedure, beginning today and ending on February 2016, they will close down ActiveDen.
Ten years ago, when the project started, it was one of the first marketplaces dedicated to Flash products. Now, with the ever-growing influence of HTML 5, Flash sales have dropped, and the need for this kind of products has diminished.
I consider this a wake-up call for most Flash designers. It should make them focus on the future and the new ways they can still evolve. It’s also a very important announcement for website developers and online advertising agencies. Focus on the future like Envato did and get in line with 2015s’ trends!
Just look at some advantages HTML5 brings:
- Does not require player to function;
- Animates on all devices;
- No updates needed;
- One creative file per size.
